Track 6/7
yangon, Myanmar | march 2019
Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, is marked by many aspects, including its colonization by the British in 1824. The economic capital, Yangon, has the largest number of colonial buildings in East Asia. Built more than 150 years ago by the English William Montgomerie, the Circular Train was designed to link Yangon to the airport, a project that never came to fruition, but which still remains a way to reach the surrounding countryside. Today, the authorities want to adapt the city’s infrastructure and build more modern and efficient public transport. So before we see this Victorian train disappear, which will soon no longer be able to meet the demands of modernity, let us borrow what generations of Burmese people have used and worn out in recent decades.
